CLIMATE

The weather of Babadag is that of a Mediterranean climate. Precipitation is mainly at its peak in the winter months and the summer is arid generally. In July and August it seldom rains and the sky is usually clear. At the start and end of the summer, clouds can be seen to grow very large, the sky becoming completely obscured, although it rarely rains. Heavy thunderstorms are however common in the winter. The winds can be observed from any direction but are principally from two; prevailing geostrophic southwesterlies accompanied by moist sea breezes and geostrophic dry northerlies. The climate character is that expected of mountainous regions. High temperature variations can occur in short distances. Snow and frost may be seen from November to May near the peak. The snow level in winter is around 1400m, but occasionally drops to 800m. In summer, the temperature near sea level can rise to over 40ºC.
